We sat on the top steps of the barn stairs tonight...
watched a flock of several hundred birds swirl
and land at the top of the cottonwood tree -- they're getting ready.
Can you feel it?
Walked behind the barn to the pumpkin patch --
blossoms galore turning into round bumps.
Soon they will ripen to orange....maybe even a white one or two.
Can you feel it?
The dark begins by 8:00 -- farm security light on earlier.
The goats & kittens play with haste, catching every ray of day.
Can you feel it?
Change....it is in the air.

Yes, I feel it and Welcome it. Fall is my favorite season. The gold and burnt orange leaves with the touch of bright red. Even the air takes on a different smell. Now if only we could postpone the change that is coming after...
As I am dragged reluctantly into fall then winter I have to wonder, what would we do without the season changes? As much as I grumble, I really wouldn't appreciate summer if it were here 12 months of the year. Mowing the lawn and watering flowers does get tedious. How would we revel in that first pop of the tulip if we hadn't been shoveling snow for months? The long summer sun wouldn't hold such a glorious court if we hadn't been subjected to 20 hours of dark every day all winter(ok, maybe not 20...) I will try to be influenced by Diane and her appreciation of fall. And hey, there's this Barn Sale to attend....
I can feel it in the air. I can see it, the robins are scarse already. I can hear it, the geese are massing. My vines are covered with little pumpkins and the hummingbirds are gorging on the nectar they need for their long journey. Yeah! Another circle is completing itself and we're still here! Come on beautiful autumn!

Hi Kari!
Just wanted to say 'hello'! I stoped by your booth at the antique mall a couple of months. Such wonderful things you have! ;o)

Diane, Cheryl & my Jani...
You have just given verse to autumn. It is watching just over the edge of the hill -- readying an arrival. I do love fall.
Mary -- welcome -- thanks for the "hello"!
