pattern multiplied

I do enjoy looking at the white on white on white trend....BUT,
my life is too colorful to live that trend.  I am much more of a
pattern on pattern on pattern kind of gal.  Just am! ❤️

Moo

I succumbed...Bessie has joined our Meadowview Farm
livestock!  I looked at her on several other blogs, debating-
wasn't sure.  Then there she was for sale, at a reasonable
price.......and before I could debate it further, I pressed "buy"!

And she arrived, and I really rather love her.  She has now
joined a small herd of cows living in my kitchen.

Cows, goats & cats....I assume a chicken, horse or llama will
arrive next!  At least I do not have to feed or milk Bessie!

farm kitchen redone

I have this thing for blue & green....
And cows, tin, actually.....my list of likes is large!

So, on a stop at T.J. Maxx on Friday, of course
the blue & green tablecloths caught my eye.  I have
learned that tablecloths or shower curtains are a much
cheaper mode of acquiring great fabric.

By combining a table runner & tablecloth in the same fabric,
I was able to quite easily make a new sink skirt for our original sink.
*The trick is to save/use as much of the hemmed edges in your work!

Although I am not one for matchy matchy, right at this moment
I like the matching tablecloth on our kitchen table.

All the fabric was about $25.00 ~ including the tablecloth.  And I
know it will be happy in the washing machine too...as it was all
meant for table use.

Another view of the table...the chairs are all painted
with scenes from our farm.  The large jelly cupboard in the
background is about the same mid-1850s vintage as our farm...
it is our kitchen pantry.

And here is the sweet sink again, all dressed up with a new skirt.
I attach all my sink skirts via Velcro, so this can be swapped
out with the previous one when desired.

Close up of the fabric.  Will work nicely into Autumn!

How about you, what are your current "go to" colors?

cows on my mind

As I arrived home after dark last night I recognized a "maaaaaa" from our goats, greeting me as they often do ----- followed by a rather loud "moo" from our neighbor's herd. This morning as I walked about the house, I noticed this newly evolving collection of cows....yes a moo moo here and a moo moo there. Seems I have a little case of cows on my mind.

Farmhouse Style - autumn

I have not totally "retired" from blogging....will still post antique booth & Barn Sale updates.

Autumn has begun to arrive at my booth at the Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall in Wisconsin...even redid the front door display with a bit of autumn Farmhouse Style (3rd picture). I love the pop of orange at this time of year.

October Barn Sale is now less than 2 months away....we did a major gathering Friday -- MAJOR!

And, we have a new litter of kittens..my heart is happy.

p.s. had some questions about leaving comments on these antique booth or Barn Sale posts. I will not have an open comment area....email me with any questions.

a cow

So...call me crazy, but I had to acquire this cow creamer.....and had secretly wished for one for awhile.

Dave & I worked behind the counter at the Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall Saturday, and I snuck away from my post long enough to have this little friend "moo" to me. And now she lives at my farm.....oh something just tells me I will have a small herd before I know it.

So, go on, do tell....what are you secretly or not so secretly seeking in the world of vintage?

my style

Of one thing I am certain, my personal decorating style is a bit tricky to pin down. I love shades of white....but I also adore color. I believe "less is more", but I'm also quite certain "more is more". I have a growing penchant for primitives, but most certainly have a thing for charm & whimsy. I think removing layers might be a good thing, then recant that idea as I think adding layers makes a house a home. I admire pristine, but live in a world of cat fur & farm dirt. I would like to be practical, but dang....need my nothing but adorable around me. I understand the duty of white walls so your things "pop"-but haven't the heart to not share a "round of wonderful" with the walls of my home. I try my hardest to diverge from green......then run home to it with open arms. And to throw a cherry on top, I get bored very easily....so it is not in my wiring to ever ever ever say, "and this is now finished". I am a home decorating mess! My style is simply no style. True.

But, maybe the little glimmer of hope is that what I admire the mostest of the most is independent, critical thinking.......and making your own path, one that is yours & yours alone. So, that path less traveled is where these bare feet will always take me. And if it is "the thing to do" -- then it won't be on my "to do list", just won't. And that applies to my home & my style. Years ago, I came across these words in a children's book: "my home is me and I am it, it is everything I want to be, and it looks like all my dreams". I like that style quite a lot.

This patchwork is from my grandmother - seems she also liked a little of this and a little of that. I imagine she was quite stylish - in an independent, road less traveled kind of way.

Open....Farmhouse Style

I was at the Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall late last night and early this morning. I am done for now.... Lots more to move in, but feeling good about my start. At auction all day Saturday.... question before each bid: "is this Farmhouse Style"? Stop by if you are in the area & let me know what you think.

As always, for all the details about Hixton--see "Vintage Finds" under Chapters to the right.

Farmhouse Style

Hardworking, reclaimed vintage farm goods, down to earth charm...that is Farmhouse Style to me. It is an egg basket filled with gardening supplies, an ironstone bowl overflowing with old wooden clothespins, even a chicken in the house (wink). There is nothing pretentious about this style...it is sun on your shoulders, dirt under your nails, straw in your pockets & joy found in the every day routine of life. From aprons to blue Ball jars to chippy farm cupboards to well loved quilts...this style has "home" within it.

Today I was on a mission at the Elko Flea Market in Minnesota....I could only purchase items that met these qualities. It didn't take long to fill my arms -- with multiple trips to the car! I hope to start in on my booth redo at the Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall soon, and will share when done. Farmhouse Style is what I have finally come home to.

What does Farmhouse Style mean to you?
