kitchen cute
Daisy Grace loves to hang out on our kitchen sink.
💚
Not sure why, but she sure adds extra adorable to this
original farm sink.

Lucy Lily & Daisy Grace
Lucy Lily
All of our male animals share the middle name, Michael.
But not our girls.
Lucy & Daisy are entering their 4th year of
blessing our lives. They are our inside kittens.

Never underestimate a barncat...
Meet my Lucy Lily...she is my girl. Adopted in 2015 from the
Eau Claire County Humane Society...she was part of a litter born
to a feral momma. She has touched my life in more ways then I can
ever count. Such is the case with every animal that has entered our
lives, but on this early June day....in particular, I want to testify to how
the feral cat population should never be underestimated. Our first barncat,
Hope, found her way to our farm about 10 years ago in the fall, a feral cat.
It took most of the winter to earn her trust. Over the years she has blessed
our lives with 25 kittens...one that now lives in Seattle with my Ian and
5 that still tend to their barncat duties with our Hope. And then there is
Midnight, Patches...and the other feral cats that ultimately found solace
& a home at Meadowview Farm. We have taken the responsibility of their
care seriously (they could name a wing of the Osseo-Augusta Vet Clinic
after us)! Tomorrow is my birthday...and I plan to donate to our Humane
Society on behalf of the feral cats. They are often misunderstood, but
when we honor them with our trust, remarkable things happen. 💚

looking up
I am a worker bee, naturally known for looking about for that
next task that needs doing. I rarely just look about to take things in.
My Daisy has taught me in her sweet kitty way to look up. She
often finds just that spot to carefully perch or nap. Often up high.
I try to remember this kitty lesson, and take more moments to
look up. To amaze at the clouds, to check the tree tops, to watch
for our local eagles. Daisy Grace fills her sweet kitten days by
looking for possibility. I like that. 🐱

❤️🐱❤️
I live in this sweet world of kittens & baby goats & vintage charm.
It truly is my beloved haven. When the world talks back too much,
I know I am blessed to have a safe place to retreat to. A place where
kittens follow you and goats call to you across the farm yard. A place
where I can try to make sense of things. A place where kindness
always wins & compassion is the law. ❤️

home, finally
Barn cats are necessary on a farm...and over the years, many have called Meadowview Farm home. Every now & again, an extra cat arrives at our farm, as was the case with Patches. An older boy, he would watch from the edge of the field when I called in the kittens at day's end. Slowly he followed the call. Slowly he let me pet him. Slowly this farm became his too. I am glad that he has a home, one he now protects with ferocity. He has taught me that you are never too old to find where you were meant to be.

gentle farewell
Saying goodbye to a pet is just never easy. Over the years we
have become very attached to all of our dear hearts...even those
that call the barn home.
In the early morning hours, dear Chestnut Violet ~ one of our oldest kittens
born on this farm passed on. She will be greeted in a heavenly meadow by many
beloved siblings and one Taffy goat.

We will miss you Nutskie...
May her memory be for a blessing.

The Big Red Barn
In the winter, all the barn cats come home--even my
traveling Luna. We open the inside stairs to the hayloft
so they have more space to hang out.
This winter we have an extra cat, Patches...an older boy that
now calls this barn home. He was cautious around me at first,
but now let's me pat his head, following me around with a raspy meow.
One of my favorite times of the day is when I get home from
work. I am always greeted by a small herd of cats, anxious
for a refresher of food & water, a kind word & touch and a reminder
that this big red barn is their home.

lessons learned on a farm
So, here are some things I've learned at our farm:
- A good pair of boots are essential
- Hay is not the same as straw
- Walking out to the barn can ease your mind
- Pigeons love silos
- The sky just seems larger
- And the life of a barn cat is measured in months, not years....
