sweet kindness
I am quite certain that kindness is measured in moments when your
heart finds joy in giving. No thanks, ego or return receipt requested...
just relishing helping or giving or sharing. On this first day of spring,
there was a sweet gift of kindness waiting at my roadside mailbox. With
no note or name...this sweet rusty farm sifter with a darling nest and a
handmade leaf that will hold a tiny drink for a bird in my summer garden
was waiting for me. This is one of many first days of spring I have found
a sweet gift at my mailbox. Over the years tulips, a hydrangea...all
unexpected gifts of kindness. I know the giver expects no thanks, but
I am ever so thankful.

this is what I know
I am certain that the reason I am drawn to sweet pieces of the past is
quite simple...I am very sentimental. A postcard with a darling message
tugs deep into my heart. A chippy ironstone bowl tells me stories. Intricate
lace speaks of someone working hour after hour with careful stitches.
In this processed, "faster please" world...a little charm & age...a little
time tested character can make my eyes smile.

Dealers are allowed to have two big Sales a year at the
Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall. This is my first for
the year. Stop by for 30% off my booth & case thru
March 26! (Sale excludes items marked "firm".)
If you have not shopped Hixton, Wisconsin....this little
town between Black River Falls and Eau Claire has four
antique stores. The one I sell at is a multi dealer mall ~
certainly one of the largest in Wisconsin. It is open every
day from 10-5 with an easy off & on from I94.

safe travels my son
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
My son, Ian, travels from Wisconsin to Washington at
the end of this week to begin a new adventure. I am
ever so proud of his courage. However, this mom will
be a tear soaked wreck...no longer will my one & only
be a short drive away. He is at that crux in the road...
and off he goes! Safe travels my love, safe travels.

lights will guide you home
Winter in the country is dark. Quiet & dark.
Night comes early, and I am amazed that all that often
lights the farm are just 4 lights: our security & porch lights
outside and a kitchen & livingroom light inside. Acres
and acres and just four lights.
When I used to travel to an office in Madison, I would
return late on Thursday night. Knowing how much I
had missed home, Dave would "light" up the farm...
turning on every light ~~ like a beacon.
I like both:
Knowing home by heart...just like I do when I
get up in the middle of the night.
And knowing home by how it reaches out to me
across the fields, lighting the night sky like a shooting star.
Lights will guide you home...
To my Ian... "Lights will guide you home". (Coldplay)
Safe travels my son.
