Farmhouse Style

Hardworking, reclaimed vintage farm goods, down to earth charm...that is Farmhouse Style to me. It is an egg basket filled with gardening supplies, an ironstone bowl overflowing with old wooden clothespins, even a chicken in the house (wink). There is nothing pretentious about this style...it is sun on your shoulders, dirt under your nails, straw in your pockets & joy found in the every day routine of life. From aprons to blue Ball jars to chippy farm cupboards to well loved quilts...this style has "home" within it.

Today I was on a mission at the Elko Flea Market in Minnesota....I could only purchase items that met these qualities. It didn't take long to fill my arms -- with multiple trips to the car! I hope to start in on my booth redo at the Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall soon, and will share when done. Farmhouse Style is what I have finally come home to.

What does Farmhouse Style mean to you?

My sentiments exactly! Can't wait to see your shop when it's redone. Let me know when you get it done.

Another big gathering day on Saturday....full car, FULL!
We actually found our way into full outbuildings on a farm near Oshkosh.....but that is a whole other story.
I am beginning to see my antique booth coming together.
Dawn....will post pictures when done.

Kari, I love your definition of Farmhouse Style. I just got back from a quick trip to Maine driving there from Texas and flying back... anyway. What I love about the countryside inland from the touristy coast is a genuine down to earth feel of the farm. This isn't exactly what you're talking about in decor but what resonates with me when I hear that style are the beautiful old dairy barns (many a faded red) often connected to a great old farm house (winter blizzards I'm told are why). But I want to capture that feel and what you describe fits into that feel.
Thanks for putting it into a theme. I think it fits here in Texas also.

It makes me smile when thinking of auctions a few yrs. ago when much of the farm style "junque" would be left behind---how times have changed. Good to be saving treasures from a burning pile or a hole in the ground! Take it home and love it!
