little flowers

I am in process of garden cut back & clean up.  Cutting back those plants that have become just far too leggy - sometimes giving them their second chance at growth, sometimes removing them all together.  It is necessary -- but never ever easy for me.  So often it is my beloved pansies that by July are overhanging their pots that take the massive cut.  And, putting those sweet little faces in my garden discard bag just hurts.  However, trying to tease out each little flower to save takes such patience & time, then they only last a moment.  Sometimes I take the time, sometimes I just close my eyes and throw.  Little flowers, little plant haircuts, my oh my -- does anyone else suffer through these things like me?

Might I add -- what makes this even more bittersweet is that the green houses are now getting ready to close for the season. So, even though I might just find some great values on plants (as I did with lavendar & plant pot refills at $1.00 each)--- they are also going away. Farewell is just too hard.

I've considered just planting crab grass, creeping charlie and nightshade in my flower boxes - that stuff seems to be made of iron and has a very strong will... Let's just say I've been UNable to kill it in the rest of the yard!

Sometimes you have to just close your eyes and go for it.....I try to throw the plants in the ditch with the hopes that the seeds will self sow and I will have flowers amongst all the weeds!

I too have such a hard time cutting back plants... but sometimes I am rewarded with new flowers! I throw the cuttings in a small wood lot at the back of our yard hoping sometimes something will take root and grow.... :)

Oh yes, it's the pansies that just kill me to cut, but knowing that I can replant them in September makes it a bit easier, but by then I'm usally out of steam.
