Apple Time

Apple time is here again.

Each night I pick a wheelbarrow full of tree fall and set it at the end of the driveway.
Neighbors stop and take them -- for their chickens, for the deer, maybe even for applesauce.

All the weekend apples are donated to the Elk Ranch at the edge of Osseo.

Each morning I cut up apples to feed the goats.

And, Dave's apple pies -- delicious!

It is apple time again!  Autumn is arriving!

P.S. I am having difficulty deciding on an autumn template for my blog....
today it is the quilt - tomorrow, who knows?

Do share your favorite thing to do with apples.

Kari, I love your quilt design on your blog.. so pretty.
I like to make apple cake with homemade caramel sauce. Served warm with vanilla bean ice cream... yum!

My favorite apple activity is to EAT the apple concoctions that OTHER people have baked!
But...when I have a weak moment...I have a 1959 high school home ec text book that I use for "back to basics" recipes, including apple pie. Except that I half the sugar, they really loved pouring on the sugar! (The book also offers lots of other quality information, like how to set a proper table, and how to "please your man" through food preparation. Priceless.

How much do I love E-A-S-Y uses for apples!! Thanks!

And - I do believe that the quilt as my blog design thru fall is a keeper.

Happy weekend!

We had a yellow transparent apple tree in the yard. Those apples made the creamiest white applesauce ever. Sadly, it has gone to the big orchard in the sky. In it's memory we have planted another one along with two other varieties. Next year hopefully I will be able to harvest my own fresh apples once again. Love apple/cranberry pie and a side dish of cooked red cabbage w/apples. They seem so Fallish.

Apples! Are they the perfect fruit!? They start with tiny beautiful little blossoms, they smell wonderful, they taste delicious and they come in a variety of colors and sizes. They have songs and stories and legends about them. I decorated my kitchen with an apple theme. They are the all American fruit!

I drag out my Victorio Strainer and sauce 2 or 3 bushels every year. The steamed fruit squirts everywhere as it's forced through the mesh...yucky mess...yummy applesauce! Utah apples are delish! Leslie in Northern Utah
